I chose this informatics knowledge competency for myself because I am not exposed to a multitude of communication technologies other than the telephone and email while working. I am interested in learning more about communication technologies and how they may enhance patient care safety and quality.

Use information management tools to monitor outcomes of care processes.

I chose this informatics skill competency for myself because I am not familiar with management tools used to monitor outcomes of care processes at this time, or how they are being utilized in my practice.

Value nurses’ involvement in design, selection, implementation, and evaluation of information technologies to support patient care.

I chose this informatics attitude competency because I have not yet become involved in design, selection, implementation, or evaluation of information technologies in my workplace. I do not know how those things are even accomplished and would like to learn more.

2- IU Health uses an Information Technology Service Center to handle things like accounts and passphrases, email, computers and printing, connection services, software and hardware, training, healthcare IT, web publishing, information systems, and security and policies. 3- My workplace offers online learning through a portal. There are classes available that provide continuing education on communication technology available to us in our workplace. I can sign myself up for these courses at this website,

3- My unit has a manager who is very involved with us and keeping things running smoothly. I will make time to speak with her and ask her questions related to information management tools that we employ on our unit and in our practice.

1- I will seek out employees in information technology positions at my place of employment, and my unit manager and I will ask them how I might be able to become more involved in the design, selection, implementation, and evaluation of information technologies to support patient care in my workplace.

Timeframe

I will commit to reading more and learning more about communication technologies and their benefits and limitations by using the links I have provided in the resources section. I will sign up for one class in ELMS and I will contact our IT department and ask them to further provide me with information regarding in house resources available to me before this class ends

I will commit to reading more and learning more about information management tools by reading articles at the links I have provided in the resources section. I will sign up for the foundations in leadership course in ELMS and I will contact our unit manager and ask her to provide me with more information about information management tools we use on our unit by the end of September.

I will commit to seeking out employees in IT positions, and my unit manager, I will sign up for a module to learn more about information technology, and I will sign up for and attend a webinar before the end of 2019.
