CLASS ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW:

There are 18 activities in total to be completed on different days. These class activities must be completed during the

allocated time on the training day. At the beginning of each review session students should be given a few minutes to

familiarise themselves with the activities. Students should be given extra time at the end of the day to complete this

assessment or to clarify facts with the Trainer/Assessor.

This activity booklet needs to be submitted after completing all the activities.

Make sure the students:

• Follow the activity instructions carefully.

• Perform the activity as required.

• Use a blue or black pen. Assessments written in pencil will not be accepted.

• Ask your assessor if you do not understand a activity.

• Do not cheat. Anyone caught cheating will automatically be marked Not Competent for this unit. There are NO

EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

CASE STUDY: Identifying immediate, short-term and long-term needs

Bernard is an older man, living alone. His daughter, Bernadette, has until recently, lived close by and helped her father with activities of daily living. Bernadette’s husband is suddenly required to relocate interstate for work, so Bernadette will no longer be able to assist her father. To complicate issues, Bernard recently fractured his hip and is due to have a hip replacement operation within the month.

Bernadette and Bernard are concerned about Bernard’s isolation, particularly leading up to and following the operation. Bernard is feeling very distressed about his daughter leaving and the impending operation.

The case manager is working with Bernard to assess and provide a case plan to address his immediate, short-term and long-term needs.
