Each student will be responsible for conducting and writing a critical analysis of a scientific literature journal article related to a specific research technique. I have uploaded the journal article. Each student will receive an article chosen by one of the instructors that demonstrates the use of a specific laboratory technique related to the course material. The student will present background related to the technique utilized in the article which will include how the technique is conducted and the origins of the technique (discussion on modifications of the technique, if it is a standard technique or a novel one) and conclude their paper in a discussion of future directions related to the technique (future modifications or uses including its possible use in clinical therapies or diagnosis techniques).
The information will be presented in the form a written report according to the guideline and rubric made available to the students. I have also uploaded the grading rubric.
Topics your paper will address:
“How the technique was used in the paper”
o Discuss the purpose and main application of the technique as related to the literature article
o Explain in your own words the steps of the technique.
Ø information on model organisms or material (i.e. DNA, RNA, protein, cell culture) being tested

“Origins of the technique”
o Discuss if the technique is an old standard technique, modification of a standard or older technique, or a completely new technique
o Explore applications of the technique beyond those used in the paper

o Explain the broader impact of the technique.
o Discuss and current or developing uses for the technique
Ø Modifications to expand its impact or use
Ø Clinical uses including treatments or diagnosis tools
