Chose one of the two options below.

Option 1:

Write an expository essay on Parent’s Foul Means.

An expository essay is writing that explains. You can write a descriptive essay that describes the topic. Or you can write an essay that identifies or acknowledges a problem and offers a solution. Imagine a reader who has not read Parent. How would you you explain his work? Be sure to document your work. You must engage at least four of the chapters we read.

Option 2:

Write a persuasive essay that assesses the argument that Parent puts forth in Foul Means. Did he succeed in what he set out to accomplish. Your essay must engage at least four chapters — you can engage more — and it must include a counterargument.

Clearly indicate in the header which option you have chosen to write.

  • Be sure to document your work. Parenthetical citations are fine. (Authors LN + pg#)
  • Thesis and claims are clear. 20 points. Sets up your argument. Is controversial.
  • Textual evidence. 20 points. Supports your thesis.
  • Logical progression. 20 points. One paragraph, one idea. You can have lots of examples, but you get only one idea per paragraph.
  • Compelling narrative. 20 points (draws reader in).
  • Solid conclusion worthy of the topic at hand. Significance. why it matters? 20 points
