Sustainability Question

Learning Goal: I’m working on a sustainability question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.

Objective: Understand the water footprint of the foods and drinks you consume daily and reflect on its implications relative to average consumption patterns.

Instructions:

  1. Data Collection and Calculation
    • Create a table. In the first column (Column A), list down the foods and drinks you typically consume in a day.
    • Navigate to to determine the water cost of each food and drink item. Ensure you pay close attention to the portion sizes mentioned (e.g., 8 oz of apple juice).
    • If you cannot find an exact match for an item, choose the closest listed food or drink item.
    • Estimate the number of portions you consume. Use this data to calculate the total water cost for each food and drink item (e.g., if you drank 16 oz of apple juice, you’d need to calculate the water cost for two portions of 8 oz apple juice).
    • Sum together the entire water cost to get a total for the day.
  2. Analysis and Reflection
    • Using the sources provided, including , , and , to analyze your results. Identify the items in your diet that have the highest water usage.
    • Reflect on the overall size of your water footprint. Considering the insights from Module 2 and , how does your water footprint compare to the average? Do you believe your food-related water footprint significantly contributes to this?
    • Your reflection should consist of at least two paragraphs, with each paragraph having a minimum of four sentences.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Your submission should include the table of calculations and your analysis and reflection. Do not upload your written portion in the text box. Points will be taken.
  • Ensure clarity and precision in your calculations and presentation.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Accuracy and completeness of data collection and calculations.
  • Depth and clarity of analysis and reflection.
  • Use of sources and referencing where appropriate.
  • Adherence to submission guidelines.
