Writing Question

Need Proposal by Midnight What topic have you decided to research for your Final Research paper?

Based on your topic, what is your thesis statement?

Paper topic should have two essential parts:

  • A specific narrative (book, film, play, video game, et.).
  • Focus on some specific aspect of that narrative. For example:

Topic Twilight as an example of negative social commentary for teenage girls.

Thesis Statement While romantic and entertaining, Stephanie Meyers Twilight sets a negative example for young and impressionable teenage girls through its use of the every girl/girl next door trope, and normalizing controlling/abusive relationship behaviors.

Topic Harry Potter as an example of modernized medieval and Arthurian legends.

Thesis Statement: J.K. Rowlings wildly popular Harry Potter series serves as an example of modernized medieval narratives, incorporating various elements from Arthurian legend such as the chivalric code, philosophers stone, and Holy Grail quest.

Please list citations (APA or MLA) for your secondary sources (2 reputable web sources, 2 scholarly sources from library databases).

2.Your Final Paper will be on a topic of your choosing. Your topic can focus on any source material (book, movie, TV series) you desire, so long as you find a way to discuss it in context with some of the concepts we have covered in class this semester (narrative, archetypes, character analysis, etc.).

Your Final Paper must be a minimum of 6 pages in length (content only – not including cover page or works cited) and it must utilize a minimum of 4 scholarly sources cited in APA (2 web sources, 2 scholarly database).

In general, you want to make sure your Final Paper has:

  • Clear thesis statement.
  • Clear arguments supporting your thesis, which utilize your own observations about the movie as well as information from your sources.
  • Clear structure; your writing needs to be organized into paragraphs in a way that makes sense.
  • Proper grammar and mechanics; the biggest issues I typically see are spelling errors and run-on sentences.
  • Proper APA format; this includes the citations in your bibliography as well as your in-text citations whenever you paraphrase or direct quote from one of your sources.
